Scottish Government consultation: Deposit and Return Scheme

The CCA has responded to the Scottish Government consultation on the proposed regulations for the Deposit and Return Scheme (DRS). These proposals are designed to promote an increase in recycling of materials, and forms part of the Scottish Government’s response to the global climate emergency.

The CCA recognises the important role that both individuals and organisations play in reducing avoidable single use container waste and moving to a greener economy. We are supportive of the policy objectives to increase recycling and maximise resources to benefit the economy and the environment. However, we call upon the Scottish Government to make healthcare premises, including community pharmacies, exempt from the DRS, to ensure the proposals do not negatively impact the level of care patients receive.
