Joint working

As a trade association, our purpose is to represent the interests of our members and to bring together their unique skills, knowledge and scale for the benefit of community pharmacy, the NHS, patients and the public.

In this context, whenever possible, we also work in partnership with other community pharmacy organisations to represent the interests of the whole community pharmacy sector and we work closely with stakeholders like the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS.

Jointly with other community pharmacy organisations, we contribute to three cross-sector working groups focusing on patient safety, workforce development and IT development.

As well as through the three cross-sector working groups listed above, we work in partnership in the following ways:

  1. Co-funding the Pharmacy All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), alongside
  2. the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIM), the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC). The APPG raises awareness of the profession of pharmacy, and also promotes pharmacists’ current and potential contribution to the health of the nation.
  3. Working with the NPA, pharmaceutical industry associations, wholesalers and parallel distributors, we co-fund SecurMed UK, a not-for-profit company set up to establish the UK Medicines Verification System as required under the Falsified Medicines Directive.
  4. The chief executives from the CCA, the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIM), the NPA, PSNC and the RPS also meet regularly to discuss ways in which these organisations can work together on areas of common interest.
