The Company Chemists’ Association is the trade association for large pharmacy operators in England, Scotland and Wales. Our vision is that everyone, everywhere, can benefit from world class healthcare and wellbeing services provided by their community pharmacy.
Founded in 1898 as The Drug Companies Association Limited, the original seven members of the CCA included Boots, which then traded as Boots, Cash Chemists Ltd (Western). The Association’s main objective was to support and protect the character, status and interests of its members who ‘carried on the business of chemists and druggists’.
We now have eight members: Asda, Boots, LloydsPharmacy, Morrisons, Rowlands Pharmacy, Superdrug, Tesco and Well. Between them, our members own around 6,000 pharmacies representing almost half of the pharmacies in the United Kingdom. Our members deliver a broad range of healthcare and wellbeing services, from a variety of locations and settings, as well as dispensing over 500 million NHS prescription items every year.
Through our members’ coverage and presence on the high street, in supermarkets, neighbourhood shopping parades, rural and urban areas, and co-located with general practice and hospitals, we are able to speak with authority and experience about issues affecting the community pharmacy sector on a national scale.
