Expanding smoking cessation support through community pharmacy

Our report highlights the difference a national community pharmacy smoking cessation service could make. Smoking cessation services are currently fragmented and underused, despite the significant harm caused by smoking. Five million people in England still smoke, contributing to 75,000 deaths each year and costing the NHS £2.6 billion and society £46 billion annually. Nearly a third of smokers live in the most deprived communities. A national pharmacy-led service support over 225,000 people to quit each year and address the current postcode lottery of access.
