Earlier this week, our Head of Policy, Dr Nick Thayer, gave evidence to the House of Lords Childhood Vaccinations Committee. He set out how community pharmacy can play a greater role in improving access to childhood vaccinations and supporting uptake across England.
Appearing before the Committee as part of its inquiry into childhood vaccination uptake, Dr Thayer highlighted the contribution community pharmacies already make to vaccination programmes and outlined the opportunities for the sector to take on an expanded role in the future.
Dr Thayer’s appearance follows ongoing work by the CCA to explore how community pharmacy can contribute further to vaccine uptake. The CCA hosts the Pharmacy Vaccinations Development Group (PVDG), which brings together government officials and representatives from across the vaccines supply chain to examine opportunities for expanding the role of community pharmacy in administering vaccines.
The PVDG is sponsored by Bavarian Nordic, GSK, MSD, Pfizer UK and Viatris.
