1,000+ pharmacies and GP practices have permanently closed since 2015

CCA analysis shows that 1,000+ pharmacies and GP practices have permanently closed between 2015 and 2022, 37% of which have taken place in the 20% most deprived parts of England. Deprived communities in the North West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber have faced some of the highest losses. In the paper, the CCA sets out its concerns that primary care ‘cold spots’ could soon emerge – areas where access to primary care is significantly reduced or inadequate altogether.
