Several of the Medication Safety Officers (MSOs) from the cross-sector Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group (CPPSG) attended the HSJ Patient Safety Awards in Manchester last night.
The group were finalists in the category Improving Safety In Medicines Management Initiative. In a room primarily made up of hospital trusts, our patient safety enthusiasts were proud to be representing community pharmacy.
Safety incidents involving high-risk Look-Alike, Sound-Alike (LASA) medicines have often featured in the share and learn sessions at the CPPSG meetings. Using our group’s expertise and inspired by examples from Boots UK, the CPPSG created a series of one-pagers to support front line pharmacy teams in learning about these risks and to help prevent these errors reaching patients.
For this work, and up against stiff competition from across the country, unfortunately we didn’t win (this time!). It is credit to the hard work and passion of the MSOs on the group that they were shortlisted from so many award entries.
