Details of the new Welsh Contractual Framework were today outlined following agreement between the Welsh Government and Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW).
Commenting on the announcement, Malcolm Harrison, Chief Executive of the CCA, said: “We welcome the agreement reached by the Welsh Government and Community Pharmacy Wales on the new Welsh Contractual Framework. We are pleased to see the funding reconfiguration, which will see quality and clinical services rewarded appropriately. Creating a suite of directed services called the Clinical Community Pharmacy Service and improving the remuneration for service delivery is a positive for Community Pharmacy. We look forward to hearing more detail on the enablers to be announced following the Dispensing Volume Review.
The CCA also welcomes further investment in funding for community pharmacists with the development of the Post Registration Foundation Training Programme and the extension of HEIW funded Independent Prescribing training. Community Pharmacy Wales and contractors must now work together to maximise the delivery of clinical services within the sector, specifically the new nationally directed Independent Prescriber Service. This service will play an important part in ensuring the retention of community pharmacists who have trained to become independent prescribers and incentivise them to continue their career in community pharmacy.
We commend the introduction of HEIW funded technician training, together with the rewarding of pharmacies with staff in and post training.
The new contractual framework will continue to move the sector towards the shared ambitions of the profession’s vision as outlined in ‘Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales’.”
