Disproportionate pharmacy closures in areas of deprivation

CCA analysis found that there had been 670 permanent pharmacy closures between 2015 and 2022. Worryingly, 41% of those permanent closures had taken place in the 20% most deprived parts of England. Between 2015 and 2022, 808 pharmacies closed permanently in England and just 138 new pharmacies opened – a net loss of 670. The paper provides a breakdown of permanent closures by region – 63% of permanent closures in the most deprived areas were concentrated in the North West, West Midlands and the Yorkshire and Humber regions.
