Figures released today show that over one hundred thousand patients with minor illnesses or urgent medication needs have received same-day pharmacist referrals this winter – helping patients get the care they need in the community and avoid GP or hospital visits.
Commenting on the findings, Malcolm Harrison, Chief Executive of the CCA, said: “We would like to congratulate all of the community pharmacy teams who have been working very hard since the introduction of the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service to make it a success for patients, the public and the NHS. The impact of this patient facing service has been significant since it was launched at the end of October.
“Today’s figures show how community pharmacy is becoming an integral part of the urgent care system. We’d like to continue to build on these great results and further support the primary care and urgent care systems.”
