The CCA welcome proposals to increase the number of GPs signing up to the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS). The CPCS enables GPs to refer patients with minor ailments to community pharmacies. The Government and NHSE have encouraged more GP practices to sign up to the CPCS and this was a pre-condition to access to the Winter Access Fund. However, we are concerned this comes at a time when NHSE/I are creating thousands of new roles in Primary Care Networks (PCNs), including plans to recruit 7,500 pharmacists by 2024 – many of these will be filled by pharmacists working in the community.
