Blog: One week in…

Wow! That went quickly. My first week with the CCA has quite literally flown by. Everyone  within the organisation has been very welcoming and supportive as I start my journey with the company and I begin to learn and understand more about how the organisation and its members work together.  As I reflect upon the past 5 days I feel the team and I have already covered a lot of good ground.

As you may have seen on social media, on Tuesday I had the opportunity to meet with Steve Brine MP for Winchester & Chandlers Ford and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health and Primary Care.  The meeting went very well. As this was the first meeting between the CCA and the Minister, it provided me with an opportunity to talk about our organisation and to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive.  I am very keen to meet with stakeholders from across the pharmacy and healthcare sectors in the coming weeks and months, so that I can understand their views on where the challenges and opportunities lie for both our organisation and the sector as a whole. As well as discussing the role of the CCA and its members within primary care we also talked about his vision for the future of primary care and disease prevention.  The meeting was very constructive and I look forward to working with the minister and his team in the future.

I attended my first board meeting on Wednesday which provided me an excellent opportunity to meet with the board and to gain more of an understanding of the strategic direction in which they would like to see the company delivering.

Thursday was kicked off with a busy meeting of the cross-sector Community Pharmacy Workforce Development Group, which gave me a chance to see how the CCA and colleagues from both AIM and the NPA are continuing to work collaboratively on areas of common interest relating to the future training and education needs of community pharmacy teams.

My first week was finished off on Friday with a CCA team meeting.  It was great to get everyone together in a room and to hear about the volume and breadth of work currently being undertaken by the organisation.

After a busy first week I’m looking forward to a weekend of 6 nations rugby and catching with old friends for a nice meal on Saturday (no pressure Olly) before getting back to business and starting week two!
